Architecture is just a frame and people are the big picture.” -Obi Okolo
Our mission is to use dignified urban & architectural design to empower low-income communities to overcome economic, health, educational and social barriers by making locals the lead architects in designing the future of their community.
To create a world where everyone has access to dignified design regardless of their socio-economic or cultural status.
WHAT WE DO:
Architectural Design, Urban Design, Community Development & Design Thinking.
OUR DESIGN APPROACH:
We hire and work with young local architects and partner them with experienced international architects so as to come up with high quality contextual African architecture with international diversity and expertise. We believe that no one knows the context and what’s needed more than the people that actually live in the area and that’s why we aim to empower young local architects with the tools necessary to develop their communities.
We also believe that in order to design contextually you need to intentionally involve the whole community and that’s why we’ve come up with the community engagement process below.
Listen to Build | Design
By listening to what communities want and need in their architecture, we are able to implement design solutions that are sustainable and in context with community traditions.Building to Enable | Construct
A home isn’t just a place to sleep, it can also be a store, a daycare, a way for people to sustain themselves. The purpose of our designs is to empower individuals by enabling commerce, opportunity, and growth over time. This contributes to the development of vibrant, healthy communities.Enabling Ubuntu | Impact
Big picture, we care about creating holistic communities. A place that brings people together and a place where the community can thrive. Through listening and empowering families, we enable such communities to grow.Rendering by Andrews University in Collaboration with UDG.
